I'm a Big Kid Now!

I am like totally like a grown-up now! I have furniture in all my rooms. Alex was nice enough to let me get this table for our dining room. I really did get a great deal on it! We even ate dinner in there last night.

I had a few days between when I bought the table and when it was delivered so it gave me some great motivation to paint the dining room. I have always wanted to do a dark brown room, I think it turned out pretty good. Next up, drapes!

You'll Shoot Your Eye Out!

Holy cow! I have a 10 year old! How did that happen?

Jordan's birthday turned out to be a crazy day, and I haven't gotten back to posting his b-day pictures since then. Why was it crazy you say? Well first off I went and bought cupcakes to take to his class and when I got to the school I was informed that they are not allowed to have cupcakes. Muffins are ok, but cupcakes are too unhealthy. I really wanted to ask if I could just lick the frosting off and say they were muffins, I restrained myself though!

Then about 2 in the afternoon the builders in our neighborhood were mowing the empty lot next to us and knocked over the power box and chopped up the cables. I heard a loud noise and my power went out and I went out side and yelled at the moron that was mowing, then came inside and bawled! Luckily a guy in our ward came over later that night and rigged the wires so that our power will work until the power company comes to fix it (who knows when that will be).
Luckily I still had the cupcakes, because I hadn't gotten to making Jordan's cake yet. So at least that worked out. So we had Jordan's birthday in the dark - at least we had candles!
After all of that I still think Jordan had a great birthday and he hasn't shot his eye out, yet!

Girly Trike

Hayden is mean! He won't share his trike with Kendall. He has even started putting it in the garage in places she can't get it when he is not using it. So, I saw this purple and pink radio flyer trike the other day and had to get it for Kendall. Did this solve the problem?

No, now he rides this one! What a stinker!!

When Kendall does get to ride her trike, she points to the little handle on the back and says "push, please" and then when she's done with me pushing she says "stop, stop, stop." She doesn't steer very well so usually we just end up going in circles and I actually made my self so dizzy that I fell down, at least I was already bent over and close to the ground!

Donkey

Tonight in the bath tub Hayden said "I'm a donkey."

I said "Why are you a donkey?"

Hayden said "because I'm donking my head under the water."

Surviving Ike

I just want to preface this by saying that I know there are people that are WAY worse off than me and people even in my neighborhood who had trees fall on their houses and now have holes in their roofs and there are people who lost everything and my heart goes out to them and I feel for their losses. That being said, this is my story and being that it is my blog, it will be all about ME!

So it all started the Sunday before Ike when a woman in RS said that her husband works in the weather center at one of the news stations and that they were predicting that Ike would be coming our way and that we needed to prepare. My friend I was sitting next to said to me "uh oh, I just got the chills." So right then I had a feeling that it wouldn't be good.

Wednesday night the news started saying that Ike was coming for us so I got up early and went to Walmart to get some more water and supplies. Alex called and said something about how traffic was great on the way to work, when I got to Walmart, I knew why. Everyone and their brother was there. It took us 45 minutes to check out and all the lines were open. Craziness!

Friday, I did all my laundry, cleaned my house and stressed out by watching lots of news about when Ike would make landfall. It started to rain about 11 pm it got scary about 3 am, we lost power around 4 am. Somehow we slept for part of it. The tree we were worried about hitting our house, didn't move but the one next to it fell right along side of our house and a section of our fence was blown about 20 feet away. But that was all the damage we had, we were very lucky.

The crazy wind and rain continued till about noon and soon after the water ran dry. We got water back on Thursday and today after 9 days without electricity, we got our power back this afternoon! It took a little while for it to sink in and when it did I imediately started doing laundry! There is still the fear of rolling blackouts, but for now I am extremely grateful for the electricity. And I do not wish to go camping any time soon.

I am proud to say I only had one major breakdown, which of course happened this morning and I think Heavenly Father said "ok she's going to really lose it if we don't give her her power back, let's get 'er done" I know he loves me, but really I think it was more for the benifit of my children (crazy moms are generally not good).

Hurricane Ike *#!@^*

I am at a friends house doing laundry (who has power and water!) and was offered the opportunity to use the internet so I jumped at the chance to update!

We made it through the hurricane unscathed. We are now putting up with the aftermath of not having power or water. Fun Fun! Our neighbors have been kind enough to let us run an extension cord from their generator to our refridgerator, so at least we have that. And we have friends that have water that have been letting us shower at their house. So we are basically justs camping at our house.

So now everyone knows that we are fine. I think our home phone is working again (at least it was this morning) and cell service is very spotty. But we're fine - just pray for power!

Under Construction

I am being very brave and trying to figure this stuff out for myself...

Any tips would be appreciated! I've already spent WAY too much time on this but I am commited to figuring it out...

My problem for the moment is that I have no bar at the top to sign in with?!

Our House

Sorry this has taken so long. I know some of you have been waiting!
So here it is, nothing is painted yet and most of the ceilings are really high, so it will probably be awhile until it is.

This is the dining room, I am going to put this table in the kitchen and get rid of the table that is in there and get a big dining room table.

This is the "formal living room".

There is a lovely space above the fireplace for some vinyl, don't cha think?!

The family room.

The bathroom, oops, no that's the kitchen.

The game room upstairs. I don't know why we are calling it the game room, it's not big enough for many games.

And Jordan's room, the door on the right is his bathroom on the left his closet.
There are other bedrooms and bathrooms, but I'll showcase those as I get them painted...

Baby Steps

Last week I was organizing the garage, I put Hayden down for a nap and went back out to work. I came back in about an hour later and found him like this!

He has an aversion to sleeping in his room lately. Every night he tries to get us to let him sleep in someone else's room. Before school started Jordan let him sleep in his bed with him a couple of times and he slept on the bottom bunk in Dylan's room a few times, but with school in we don't want him in with the big boys and almost every night he ends up on the floor by my side of the bed. I am so mean - I won't let him in my bed anymore, but I always leave a pillow and a blanket on the floor for him!

Snip, Snip

Kendall had her first trim last week. It was emotionally hard to do, but I knew that it would look better. And it does, it looks so much thicker than it did with the scraggally ends.

When her hair is all dry it has a very cute flip on the bottom. It looks like I actually did something with her hair!
